Some cities keep their story in their stones, others in their streets. Bursa’s story flows through its water. Born on the slopes of Uludağ, mineral-rich waters have nourished, warmed and purified this city for centuries. The abundance Evliya Çelebi captured in the words “In short, Bursa is made of water.” made Bursa not only a city of water, but the heart of a deep-rooted culture of hammam and purification.

In Bursa, the hammam was never simply a place to wash. It was a place of ritual, where people gathered, rested, talked, celebrated and shared life’s important passages. From bridal baths to the fortieth-day hammam, from festival mornings to long conversations, it was not only the body that was cleansed on the warm marble — the mind, too, was freed from the weight of everyday life.
The hammam’s architecture is part of this experience. Daylight filtering through the star-shaped openings in the domes passes through the steam and draws fine reflections across the marble. Light from above falls on the surface of the water; the water carries it, multiplies it and spreads it through the room.
Peren’s story begins with exactly this light.
The Pleiades
Of Persian origin, Peren names the Pleiades star cluster and its brilliance. A more contemporary, fluid and simple reading of the name Pervin, Peren stands for shining, for showing the way, and for remembering one’s own light. The name meets not only Bursa’s water culture but also its silk tradition.
